Oncelikle herkese iyi bayramlar!

Sevgiler,

J. Herbin was founded in 1670 and one of the oldest ink producer of the world. Moreover, J. Herbin had made special ink for XIV. Louis and Victor Hugo, author of Les Miserables and the formulas of those inks are kept in the headquarter of the company in Paris. I had a couple of J. Herbin inks and it is a fact that some of the ink formulations has been changed to some EU regulations. I found this ink from an old stationery store which I guess brought to Turkey before the regulations :) You could follow the link in order to see the changes at some inks.

Among other greens, J. Herbin Vert Empire (Green Emperor) has the coldest undertones. But I still like it, since there are enough green inks with warm undertones. So I am glad with it. Some people take step backwards with inks other than blue and black. But I think, green is a serious color to use in every documents.

What do you think about green inks? Do you use them daily?

Cheers,

Zeynep Greenink

  1. I have more green ink than other colors combined. It was never my favorite color until I started using the ink.
Vert Empire always reminded me of Napoleon for one reason or the other. Maybe it is that laurel that he wore instead of a crown? Odd association.

    1. This might be the same for me too. I love particularly green and purple inks (especially dusty purples.
      J. Herbin inks are generally behaving very well and easy to clean inks. Vert Emprire to me always remaining the philosophical empire Marcus Aurelius which I like too much :)

    2. What a coincident! Dusty purple is another favorite of mine as well (well, I am just defenseless when it comes to colors with purple tint.) This could be why Scabiosa and Poussière de Lune are always looming on my mind. Surprisingly, even though purple is my favorite color, I do not have as many purple ink as I would like.

    3. There are a lot of nice dusty purples but possiere de lune is not one of them anymore. Because j. Herbin has changed the formula due to some EU regulations which lead color changes in some inks. One of them is possiere de lune, the other is vert empire. However this bottle I reviewed was an old one. That's why it still has this dusty shade as old pdl

  2. You know, I was on the Goulet's Inkdrop for a while and I don't think I EVER used a green ink. The other day I sorted my ink samples by color and found out I have 7 green inks I had never swatched or used.

I quickly remedied the swatching part and I don't know why I waited so long, some greens are just lovely~ and I think they're great for everyday use too.

    1. Oh, that 's great because I think green inks deserves to be used. I like them because they are suitable for daily use (not dedicated to a gender or age) and they are also suitable for private correspondence.

Particularly, J. Herbin Vert Empire is a nice ink.

      Which greens you have?

  3. I love green inks. I'm still just starting to use fountain pens so I don't have any green fountain pen inks yet, but I have way more green gel pens (and other pens) than any other colour. This Vert Empire looks great. I like a nice dark, muted shade of green for everyday writing. This one looks like a very medium shade of green: not too yellow, not too blue, but just green. I would definitely use it everyday.

    1. Heather, thank you for your lovely comment. I am actually a fan of green inks and believe they can both suitable for daily occasions and private letters or diaries. Vert empire is a well behaved ink but I also recommend stipula green musk and sailor epinard. I think you should finally be giving chance to fountain pens and green inks :)

  4. If you like Vert Empire, I recommend Diamine Umber. It is a similar colour, but slightly darker.

    1. Although I really like J. Herbin, I kind of hate their bottles. Maybe I can try Diamine Umber after I finish my Vert Empire...

    2. Herbin bottles look nice, but they were designed for dip nibs long ago: yes, very impractical for fountain pens! If you would like a sample of Umber, let me know.
